Computer Program for Selecting Cooling Tower

This program is run on a web browser via the internet, and allows users to select the tower instead of using the chart, to rapidly determine cooling tower capacity. Let's start with the following examples or go directly to the main program

Example 1:

water flow rate = 5,000 l/min with inlet water temp. = 46oC, outlet temp. = 36oC at ambient wet bulb temp. = 29oC

approach = Toutlet - Twet = 36 - 29 = 7oC

range = Tinlet - Toutlet = 46 - 36 = 10oC

1. Start the program, fill in all the data with appropriate units as shown in the Fig 1 below then press submit.

In this example, water flow rate = 5,000 l/min, Tinlet = 46oC, Toutlet = 36oC, Twet = 29oC

2. The result will show on the next page (Fig 2-3). There are two parts. The first part (Fig 2) is the top of the page that displays the values of temperatures, flow rate and total heat load. Each parameter has a +Unit button. Each time you click on the button, the value will convert to other units.

3. The second part (Fig. 3) is a graphic page that displays the selection chart with the given points marked on the chart. The list of possible selection model is also provided. It should be noted that the next upper model is selected in this example. In this example, model 450RT is selected.

Example 2:

In Example 1, if your water flow rate is lower by 10 time or = 500 l/min. In this case the program will not give you an answer since the heat load is below its capacity. You can get your answer by multiply the flow rate by a factor (e.g. 10 or 100). When you get the answer, divide the cooling tower capacity by the factor that you used. For instance, multiply the water flow rate by 100 = 50,000 l/min. The cooling tower capacity will be 4,103 RT. Therefore, the cooling tower capacity for water flow rate of 500 l/min = 4103/100 = 41 RT. And the nearest Model selection capacity is 45 RT.
